Description:
This guided tour will visit Nora, one of the oldest cities in Sardinia that was known for its trading activities. The Phoenicians founded Nora in the 8th century BC and it is now an archaeological site of extreme importance.
We will visit the Roman theatre and the frescoes of the Patrician mansions at the archaeological site. These national treasures date back to 2nd century BC. Overlooking the archaeological site is the 16th century Tower of the Coltellazzo. This 16th-century watchtower was built during the Spanish ruling on top of the remaining structures of the ancient acropolis and was used to observe and protect the three harbours of Nora.
Not far from the Phoenician-Punic centre is the church of Sant'Efisio. It is famed for its Annual holy procession in May when the statue of Sant'Efisiohe is carried from Stampace (Cagliari) to this church. The oldest part of the church dated back to the High Middle Age but had since been rebuilt by the Benedectine monks through the reuse of the lime and sandstone blocks from the Punic-Roman city walls.
We'll conclude the tour by spending some time relaxing on one of the most favourited beaches on the west coast of Cagliari.
