Description:
Su Nuraxi of Barumini is an impressive monument in stone dating back over 3,000 years. This emblem of Nuragic civilisation is the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Sardinia and is a symbol of the prosperity and architectural genius of a mysterious civilisation.
On this Nuragic guided tour, we will first visit the archaeological site of Su Nuraxi. The tour will start in the village, where you can observe different housing structures. These include round houses with a central courtyard from the Nuragic period and rectangular houses from the Punic-Roman period. There are also interesting cabins that include an oven and a washbasin, which were considered some sort of shrine for domestic worship. The village also includes a large cabin for village meetings.
Next, we will visit the nuraghe, a large stone building that can be reached by an iron ladder leading to a tiny entrance 7 meters (about 23 feet) above the ground. Once inside, you will see four side towers and the “mastio,” or central tower that originally measured 20 meters (about 65 feet) in height. These five towers create a large housing complex reminiscent of a medieval castle.
