Marvel at the lava formations of the youngest volcanoes on Tenerife, last erupted in 1909. Black sands and lush green paint a awe-inspiring contrast scenery. What missing is the dinosaurs!
From the starting point (barbecue area), we embark on a tranquil bike trip to the "Balcony" the north coast to La Montañeta. We will ride along a watercourse, crossing the first lava field, which was created by the eruption of Garachico volcano. Chinyero peak with its distinctive vent can be clearly seen.
At the end of the forest road is a plateau, overlooked by the "Roque de Garachico". This rock shares the same name of a coastal town which was almost completely destroyed in the 1706 eruption. It was told after days of prayers, the volcano and lava flow finally came to a halt. The population and part of the town were spared.
Along a water line and the first bizarre lava formations, we will have a break munching on figs we collected from the surrounded. After an ascent through the pine forest, we traverse an exhilarating lava field at the foot of mount Teide. We are now just 200m up-climb away from the highest point of our bike trip (1600m). From here, you will witness one of the most magnificent views of Teide, the highest mountain in Spain.
Yeeha... and off you go, riding 700m downhill, stopping by to a traditional pub operated by a Swiss gentleman. After lunch (warning, garlic is also suspected in their coffee), we continue our ride comfortably and happily back to our starting point.
