Floating gently and quietly through deep blue, silent caverns while discovering new places, that have their own distinct flora and fauna... places that might not have been explored before by many human being? That is what cavern diving is all about. The Maltese archipelago with its wild underwater world and great underwater visibility conditions is an excellent location for having your first cavern diving experience.
Short detours into grottos and caverns are feasible for divers with almost any level of training. However, anyone who wants to dive deeper into this unique world should absolutely complete an appropriate training at a specialised association.
The Cavern Diver course offers sports divers a comprehensive insight into cavern diving – supervised of course, by professional diver masters and with the possibility to take part in successive dive trainings.
Cavern Diver - CMAS/IAC/PADI
The Cavern Diver certification is designed for the adventurous divers who wish to have a proper introduction into the world of cavern diving. The Cavern Diver course is very well suited as a “lead-in” into the 3-segment Cavern Diving programme.
The course is the first step towards the three-piece cavern diving training at IAC, and it is concluded with the "Full Cavern Diver" certification. In this training, diving and practicing is solely done in zone 1 and open waters. Leaving the daylight zone is not part of the course. A first insight into cavern diving techniques is conveyed to the students, which will put them in a position to securely perform dives in zone 1 waters.
It is important to note that the way into a grotto should always be the way out. Crossing the grotto and diving into side branches of the grotto are not allowed. The entire training can be completed on one Mono-DTG with at least 10 litres (2000 barl); a Secondary demand valve (Octopus) is required.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum age: 17 years old
- Minimum CMAS ** or equivalent
- Have logged a minimum of 35 dives including 4 night dives
- Holds a valid diving medical certificate (not older than 3 months)

- Normal sport diving equipment
- Dive computer
- Diving light
