Restaurants, Nightlife and Shopping in San Agustín

Restaurants

There are some good fish restaurants near the beach of San Agustín. Alternatively, dine in the highest restaurant in the south of Gran Canaria with great views.

Restaurante Balcon de San Agustín

This restaurant has a nice terrace area which offers great sea views over the San Agustín beach and on a clear day, you can even see the dunes of Maspalomas. Popular amongst the locals and tourists, it offers good selection of seafood dishes like seafood paella, fish stews, fish baked in salt, and prawns in garlic and olive oil.

Restaurante Anno Domini

This thoughtfully decorated restaurant by monsieur Jacques Truyol has been serving exquisiteFrench and Italian cuisine to tourists for many years. It offers a good slection of soups, cold and warm starters, pastas, seafood, meats and desserts, not to mentioned, a list of carefully selected wines. From home-made lobster bisque to fillet steak topped with seared slice of duck liver and truffled port sauce, each dish is passionately prepared and tasted devine... its location in the tacky shopping centre is soon forgiven.

Address: Shopping Center San Agustin, Locales 82-85, Calle Las Dalias, 35100 San Agustín, Gran Canaria island

Opening hours: 18:30 to 00:00

Restaurante Gorbea

Dubbed highest restaurant in the south of Gran Canaria, Restaurante Gorbea forms part of the Gloria Palace hotel. It is located about 500m behind the San Agustín beach hence, not the closest or easiest to get to. But if you want a special dining setting with views of the San Agustín which stretches as far as Maspalomas dunes, then this restaurant specialising in Basque cuisine should be on the top of your list. Slightly pricey.

Nightlife

Nightlife in San Agustín is fairly relaxed. This is a calm resort which prides itself on its laid back ethos. There are a few nice bars and restaurants which are great to spend a night in, but those looking for a more lively atmosphere will have to take a short trip to the neighbouring Playa del Ingles or Maspalomas. There, you will find a vast array of different nightclubs and live music to suit all tastes.

There are reasonably-priced taxi services and the public bus no. 5 runs between San Agustín and Maspalomas from 21:00 to 07:00 (http://www.globalsu.net/lineas/linea05.pdf). So, no excuse for drink-and-drive behaviour!

Shopping

San Agustín is home to the namesake shopping centre. It contains many different outlets, from food stores to clothes shops. In our opinion, it is slightly tacky but great if you need to stock up some drinks, snacks and beach essentials. The more ardent shoppers may want to make the short journey to Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas however, where there are slightly more options and styles of shopping available.
