Description:
We commence our volcano jeep safari trip on a dirt track leaving our gathering point in the village of Macher up the slope. Here, you will get a proper view of Puerto del Carmen coastline and the capital of Lanzarote - Arrecife. We then pass Geria, famed for its unique landscape and wine yards.
Our jeep safari continues to the Timanfaya National Park, located in the most volcanically-active area of Lanzarote, no wonder the area is called the “Fire Mountains” region. Your ticket entrance includes a bus tour around the “fire mountains” area where you will be awed by the volcanic moonscape and rock formations. After the bus tour, you will have the opportunity to take pictures and use the washroom. If you wish to try out some local dishes, the El Diablo (The Devil) restaurant serves up food cooked using heat from the earth. Afterwards, there’s also the opportunity to make a stop to walk around the foothills of the Fire Mountains or ride a camel.
El Golfo coast is our next destination featuring a rare hydro-volcanism phenomenon - an activity of volcanic origin that happens at low altitude levels. The volcano is formed by porous tuff, which, as time passes, has created spectacular formations. The sea passes through the crater forming a beautiful black beach that contrasts the emerald coloured lake Laguna de los Clicos - a protected Natural Reserve of Lanzarote.
A short drive away southward is the Los Hervidores area. There you get to witness the effects of the powerful natural forces volcano and erosions - creating an unusually beautiful coastline.
We then turn our attention from volcanos to salt. Laying next to the Janubio beach is the massive 440,000 metres square of salt plains. The colourful array of salt “pockets”, the black volcanic beach next to it and the blue sea together create a picture-perfect scenery.
Our last stop is the popular Papagayo beach located on the southern tip of Lanzarote. You will have the opportunity to have a swim in its clear blue sea before we conclude our jeep safari tour.
