Description:
For culture and art lovers, don't miss this full-day tour while in Lanzarote. This guided tour takes you to explore the architectural and artwork of Cesar Manrique - one of Lanzarote's most beloved artist, sculptor, and architect. He is famed for seemingly integrating his art in the natural landscape while encompassing simplicity, the harmony of space and volume.
Our first stop is the Campesino Monument, which is located in the center of Lanzarote. It designed to honor the island's former and current farmers for their hard work and contribution towards the economy of the region.
Next, we drive towards the north to Haria, where Cesar Manrique spent the last years of his life. We will take a stroll around before moving further north to Mirador del Rio. Located 480m above sea level, this unique viewpoint is reconstructed from an old artillery post (Bateria del Rio) by carving into the cliff-edge. It offers stunning views over the Chinijo Islands.
After lunch, you will have a choice to visit Jameos del Agua or Las Cuevas de los Verdes (the Green Caves). Both attractions form part of the Monte Corona 7-km lava tube. Jameos del Agua is a rare habitat for the blind albino crabs, which are endemic to Lanzarote. It boasts subterranean gardens, an impressive auditorium and a scientific center where you can learn about the volcano activity and history of the island. Las Cuevas de los Verdes (the Green Caves) on the other hand, was one the hideout for pirates and slave traffickers. It features special lighting effect by Jesus Soto and impressive optical illusion.
Next stop is the Cactus Garden. Built on a run down "rofero" (quarries), the garden showcases diverse species of cacti from the Canary Islands, America, and Africa. It is also an outdoor work of art and one of the last by Cesar Manrique.
We conclude the tour with a visit to the Cesar Manrique Foundation. Using his innovative and avant-guard architecture technique, Cesar Manrique had designed his living space inside of five large volcanic bubbles produced by the 18th-century eruptions. You will also see a collection of his artworks and architectural designs.
Guests will then be brought back to the initial pickup point at around 18:00.
