The Cave of Hermano Pedro

In the cave of Hermano Pedro, you will find a tranquil spot for reflection. There is a statue of the Saint and a variety of offerings including many beautiful paintings and exotic flowers. These are left by the many thousands of pilgrims who visit the shrine every year. There is a sign pointing towards the cave located near La Tejita beach.

La Montaña Roja

On the skyline you can view La Montana Roja (The Red Mountain). This mesmerising volcanic cone rises above the sea facing Los Abrigos. A number of rare plants can be found in the surrounds, perfect if you are a keen botanist. The peculiar greyish stems of ceropegia fusca are a unique and interesting sight. The Euphorbia Paralias is another interesting find. It is feasted on by the colourful caterpillar of the Spurge Hawk moth (Hyles Euphorbia).

The area is also popular with UFO spotters; numerous sightings of strange crafts have been reported here.

Plaza del Príncipe de Asturias

Situated opposite the El Médano is the Plaza de Principe de Asturia. In this main plaza you will find a large children’s playground to keep the little ones entertained. They can expend some of that excess energy on the monkey bars whilst you enjoy an ice-cream under the shade of a leafy palm tree.
