El Puertito de Adeje

Overview

This small fishing village lies nestled between cliffs on the coast below Adeje. Squeezed between Playa de las Américas and Playa de San Juan, El Puertito is a picture perfect, typical Canarian village. Despite the thriving tourism of Tenerife, towering hotels and apartment complexes have bypassed El Puertito. It has remained largely untouched, a traditional Canarian town. In El Puertito a small church and a statue of the Virgin Mary amount to the sightseeing on offer, other than the village beach. Pepe y Lola, where you can get wine, ice cream or tapas, is the only restaurant here. El Puertito’s beach views and relaxed atmosphere make it worth a short visit, especially if you feel like avoiding hoards of tourists, as this place is not found in travel guides. However, during the mainland Spanish holidays, you may find the beach buzzing with Spanish tourists, eager for the guaranteed sunshine. An oasis of calm, the romantic bay with little caves and fishing boats shows another side Tenerife. A wander through the lanes of old houses up to the cliffs, where you can find ancient historical cave dwellings is recommended. The view down to the crashing waves of the Atlantic from this vantage point is beautiful. Unfortunately you can only reach El Puertito by car.
