Description:
Toledo, embraced by the River Tajo, is one of the most beautiful cities of Spain. See the famous fortress, Alcázar, where tour bus waits for 15 minutes before going around the monument that is located in the highest point of the city. From this view, you may also see San Servando castle on the other side of the Tajo river. Wander around Zocodover square. Go down the street and visit Bisagra Gate, a grand arch dedicated to Emperor Charles of Hapsburg, extended and rebuilt in 1550 by Alonso de Covarrubias. Hop off at Remonte de Safont/Scalators and go on to the railway station/AVE station, where passengers may finish the tour to travel to Madrid or new passengers may join to wander in Toledo. Go towards the Mirador Valle, crossing a bridge next to the Alcántara one. It rests on two round archs, and supports the fortified gate tower which gives the access to the alficen (Al-Hizan). Check out and marvel at Cigarrales – huge houses in the middle of smallholdings outside the city from where we can still see the old part of Toledo. You may cross the old San Martin bridge to arrive at the Jewish Quarter and San Juan de los Reyes Monastery. Remember to stop at Reconquista Avenue, next to Gate of Alfonso VI, also referred as the old Bisagra Gate. To discover some works from various artists, visit Hospital de Tavera. Founded in 1541 by Cardinal Juan Tavera, different works from famous painters are exhibited in the museum, such as El Greco, Ribera, Zurbarán, Sánchez Coello, and Caravaggi. The National Section Of Nobility Archive is currently kept here.
