The loop begins from Plaza de España (but you can begin from your tour from any stop), which is situated in the oldest district of Santa Cruz and is the largest square in the Canary Islands.
Explore Santa Cruz de Tenerife and visit Our Lady of Africa city market, Garcia Sanabria Park, the delightful Ramblas, Plaza Pedro Schwartz, and see the impressive, avant-garde ocean front Tenerife Auditorium – designed by the internationally renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Pass the city’s cruise terminal, which sees almost half a million passengers arrive each year.
Situated at the heart of the city, it is home to Palacio del Cabildo de Tenerife and Plaza de la Candelaria. Find the Monumento a los Caídos, which is a tribute to the fallen in the Spanish Civil War. Wander through the dazzling display of more than 300 stalls selling fresh local produce at the famous Mercado Nuestra Senora de Africa. Sundays offer the opportunity to bag a bargain at the El Rastro Flea Market, which surrounds the African Market, where you can buy leather goods, hardware and crafts.
Discover more about Tenerife’s rich history and thriving arts scene at the city’s museums and galleries – The TEA (Tenerife Espacio de las Artes), The Museum of Man and Nature, and Military Museum in Cuartel Almeida which exhibits the uniforms and other personal items of respected military personnel, models of military constructions and collections of arms used by the Guanches and the Spanish during the time of the conquest of Tenerife at the end of the XV century.
Hop off at the Auditorio of Tenerife which boasts some exceptional examples of contemporary futuristic architecture, in stark contrast to the central, historical buildings of the city. Take the bus tour to El Corte Ingles, a huge, prestigious department store with seven floors of a vast range of shops. Tenerife boasts a vibrant nightlife so you will not be short of bars, sports bars, clubs, karaoke and live entertainment to choose from. Last but not least, visit the House of Carnaval of this city who host the 2nd biggest Carnaval celebration after the one in Rio.
