Nightlife

Puerto de la Cruz enjoys a vibrant nightlife scene at weekends, with numerous bars and clubs dotted around the town offering free shots and drinks deals to keep punters happy. The main strip of clubs near the beach, Avenida del Generalísimo, provides an abundance of drinking and dancing opportunities although it is somewhat rundown and has clearly seen better days with many of the establishments either closed or relatively empty.
The majority of bars around town are generally very well prices, with a pint of local beer costing under two Euros in some places while spirits usually start at around four Euros. The bars adopt a casual, free entry policy while some night clubs do charge up to ten Euros to get in with higher drinks prices. All bars are open till late and the majority of clubs don’t actually get going until 2am, making it advisable to pace yourself when out drinking.
The Beehive

Three large screen televisions show English and Spanish football on Sky Sports and the staff are friendly and happy to help with information in the area. A small menu of toasties, pies and pasties is worth a sample and a friendly British atmosphere makes The Beehive a must for any Brit holidaying in Puerto de la Cruz.

Generally an older crowd, some of the punters have been drinking at Molly’s for over thirty years, giving this establishment a very local yet inviting atmosphere. Landlord Des livens the place up most nights with his guitar, while live bands take to the small stage most weekends to deliver some traditional Irish folk music to the crowd. Well priced drinks and a pool table ensure Molly’s to be a good start to the evening ahead.

Perfumeries, cosmetic shops and nail bars, men’s and women’s fashion and shoe shops all make Puerto into a strong area for shopping and picking up bargains. Large number of discount electronic stores can be found in Puerto too, stocking cameras, iPods, watches and other electrical items. Although be aware for counterfeit goods that bare striking similarities to the real items as many shops will sell products with false labelling and descriptions attached.
African street sellers are extremely common in Puerto, selling hand made beads and wooden crafts as well as sunglasses and fake designer handbags. Many stay out and sell on the street while some venture into bars to push their items and although eager to make a sale, a polite ‘no’ will usually do the trick.
Puerto also enjoys a free port status, meaning the town can import goods from anywhere in the world, ensuring locals and visitors have a wide range of goods to choose from at competitive prices. Shopping highlights include a Lacoste store, a Sony Centre and a large perfume outlet.
