Festivals, Restaurant, Nightlife and Shopping in Masca
Festivals
The Catholic village is very traditional and all important island fiestas are celebrated here. These include the religious celebrations like Virgen del Carmen, Festival of the Cross, Corpus Christi, as well as big annual occasions such as Nochebuena and Navidad and Nochevieja (New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve and Christmas and New Year’s Eve).
Restaurants
Considering the size of this small town there are quite a few restaurants to choose from. They all provide traditional cuisine and have spectacular views. A great spot to start your day in Masca is the bar opposite the village church. Have a coffee or ice cream whilst basking in the sun-trap of the courtyard terrace, which has dramatic views.
La Piedra
This bar and restaurant is perched at the head of the Masca gorge. The pretty establishment surrounded by lush greenery serves snacks and Canarian specialities. The comfortable bar is great for sheltering from the sun, whereas from the terrace spectacular mountain views can be admired. A boat ticket from Masca beach to Los Gigantes can be bought here for €10 per person.
Nightlife
There is not much in the way of nightlife in this rural retreat other than watching the sun disappear behind the mountains at one of the roof terraces of the village restaurants. However, if you are in the area and are looking for something a bit more dynamic your best option is to visit Puerto de la Cruz or south of the island. Arrange a taxi or drive as public transport to the area finishes after the early evening.
Shopping
A number of local, handmade and handcrafted products are on offer. You can purchase these from a tourist souvenir shop whose arched openings lead into a cliff face shop that is crammed with goodies. Alternatively, a smaller and similar collections of goods can be purchased from some of the cafes and restaurants around. Occasionally you will see craft men and women at work under the shade of the tree in front of the church
