Restaurante El Astillero

This authentic eatery boasts an enormous menu with soups priced between €4 and €5, fish dishes between €12 and €18, meat dishes between €7 and €13, and a selection of puddings. If you are eating as a group try the Zarzuela Marina, it costs around €30 but you really get your money’s worth! A huge plate of various seafood and fish cooked in garlic and herbs. You can look out onto the harbour while you enjoy a true Canarian feast.

Restaurante El Callejon

El Callejon is a wonderful tapas bar with a friendly ambience. Whilst there is no set menu, the talented Alvaro y Puri will serve you up a selection of inspired dishes – just tell him what you would like! He is also very good in recommending wine to match your dishes!

Nightlife

There are a variety of bars in El Médano. Here you will find some of Tenerife’s most authentic taverns. The bars are particularly enjoyable if you like soul, funk and jazz music.

Manfred’s Soul Cafe

This is a delightful little cafe has a warm terrace and plays a selection of classic funk and soul music. If you are around in the late afternoon it is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail with that special someone and watch the sun go down.

Crackers Irish Pub

A lively Irish pub where you can get a can of beer for just €0.70 and a jar for just €1. If you’re feeling really thirsty a just €4 gets you a two litre jug.

Festivals

International folk festival (August)

This renowned event is held every year in the third week of August and is one of the most important folk music festivals held in the Canary Islands. It brings together folk musicians from all over the world including the best folk groups in the Canaries.

Date: Approximately 16th to the 22nd August

Our Lady of las Mercedes De Rojas (September)

In September the town celebrates a huge fiesta in honour of their patron saint, “Nuestra Senora de las Mercades De Roja”. This event takes place on the Sunday closest to September 24th. One of the main events is a spectacular maritime procession. A variety of boats are paraded through the town displaying El Médano’s proud fishing heritage.

Shopping

El Médano offers a range of excellent surf shops and equipment hire stores. These stores also stock a large variety of men’s and women’s surf/swim wears. For bigger shops and a wider selection of duty free items such as perfumes, alcohols, cigarettes and cameras, Playa de las Americas is just a short bus journey away.

Bohemian Market

Check out the Bohemian Market. Here you will find a selection of handmade jewellery, clothing and African artefacts.

When: Saturdays 9am to 2pm.

Canarian Surf Fruit shop

The shop is located on the left hand side of Hotel Playa Sur. This little gem provides a range of brand name glasses, watches and jewellery by Oakley, Dude and Rip Curl. They also have their own selection of latest surf wear as well as Simmer and Timezone collections. A large variety of sweatshirts by Burton are also available for sale.
