Golfing in Lanzarote

Due to its arid and volcanic landscapes, the Lanzarote doesn’t naturally lend itself to the maintenance of lush greens and moist fairways, giving an air of uniqueness to the two courses it does manage to sustain.

Club de Golf Costa Teguise
In keeping with the lessons taught by local hero César Manrique, this marvellous course has managed not to encroach upon its surrounding natural environment which consists of volcanic lava, cacti and palm groves. Aside from the glorious landscape, the course, which was built in 1978, combines a challenge for intermediate-professional golfers with its numerous doglegs and local trade winds. Green fees from €55 during low season (May to September). There is also a driving range and club rental facilities, whilst 30 minute golf lessons come at €23.

Lanzarote Golf
Situated in the south of the island between Puerto del Carmen and Tias, this 18-hole par-72 course nestles neatly into the surrounding volcanic landscape. Despite the natural undulations of the course, it is suited to both professionals and those with higher handicaps.

If you’ve got the yips with the putter or any other problems (golf related!), you can always take a beginners’ lesson (€19) with PGA coach David Minchin. There is also a driving range and putting green on which to practise. Green fees cost in the region of €60.

Hesperia Playa Dorada
With not a dog’s leg in sight, this tastefully landscaped 9-hole pitch and putt course is the only one of its kind on the island. Belonging to the hotel, it’s perfect for beginners and those seeking a cheery swing-about.
