Faro de Maspalomas (Lighthouse)

La Charca (Oasis) of Maspalomas
This sea- water lagoon surrounded by palm trees, in-between the dunes and near the lighthouse, provides refuge to a wide range of nesting and migratory birds, such as the common snipe and the grey heron.

The Maspalomas sand dunes
These sand dunes lead on to the endless beach stretching between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. If you travel along the beach, towards the southwest, the beach widens as the Maspalomas dunes start to appear. The walk along the sea edge of the sand dunes is very popular with tourists traveling in both directions and is the best way to experience the amazing landscape. If you don’t fancy the walk back there are frequent buses running between Playa del Inglés at one end and Las Maspalomasat the other. The dunes are part of a nature reserve and there are paths through the dunes that are marked to ensure safety of the natural phenomenon and of curious tourists.
The sand dunes are also popular amongst gay tourists and the blue route, leading through the dunes, ends at the gay part of beach, where the Beach Bar 7 is located.
Museums
Mundo Aborigen (Aborigine World)
If you are looking to get to the roots of the culture of the Canarii (the aboriginal inhabitants of Gran Canaria island), this excellent exhibition is the most comprehensive of its kind on the archipelago. It comprises a model of an entire pre-colonial village, including over 100 life-sized human figures, with accompanying domestic animal noises for added authenticity. You are led through various scenes of their everyday lives, such as the slaughter of a goat, primitive surgery, seed-sowing, and a prisoner execution. There is also a small archaeological museum for a more detailed explanation of their way of life, and also some mesmerising views overlooking the adjacent Barranco de Fataga – the deepest and most spectacular gorge of Gran Canaria island.
