Description:
The Valsendero hike begins as we trail along the crater of Caldera de Tejeda. Here you will have stunning panorama of the Roque Nublo, Roque Bentaiga, Riscos de Chapin along with the west side mountains of Gran Canaria, a UNESCO's biosphere reserve. This route then leads us through a pine forest before we track along the gorge of Barranco del Andén towards Valsendero.
We will reach close to Montañón Negro to appreciate its unique and stark landscape. It is the last volcano that erupted in Gran Canaria. The magnificent Barranco del Andén canyon is gradually become visible from this point.
The Valsendero route offers hikers the opportunity to witness the different vegetation in the area, the water galleries and caves. Be mesmerized on how the trees covered with lichens had transforming the pine forest into an "enchanted forest". Aside from great views, various species of birds such as the woodpeckers can also be spotted living in the canyon.
The owners of the area are collaborating with the local governmental organisations in carrying out initiative in reviving the laurisilva forest and the Paloma Rabiche as part of an eco-project.
The way that English writer Olivia Stone described this valley in 1885 remains to be the same description that we can give to this valley today – untouched and well-preserved.
Credit: this hiking route passes Finca del Pinillo, which the team would like to give thanks to its owner - Heredad de Aguas de Arucas y Firgas, for allowing them to showcase the beauty of the valley.
