Mellieha Bay

Mellieha, at the northern tip of the island of Malta, juts out into the Mediterranean Sea like a spire. Surrounded by water, the town not only offers heavenly swimming bays but also excellent diving spots for diving enthusiasts. To the west is a bay with the same name - Mellieha Bay. The stretch is considered Malta's longest sandy beach and the water is so shallow that even children can go for a swim free from care.

Being a strategic location for trading, Mellieha town had caught the attention of the first inhabitants of Malta whom came from Sicily, Italy. Remnants of times before the Punic-Roman Wars, like old graves and the legendary limestone cart ruts, are silent witnesses to that.

Nowadays the little town is a popular tourist place. To the west are the St Paul's islands that can be reached from here. The artificial town that was the setting for the movie Popeye is available for sight-seeing as well. The hill, that accommodates the cavern chapel of Santa Marija, offers a view of Gozo and Camino.
